Test specimen fabrication: joint bars and unit cells

Abstract

Deliverable 2.1 presents the manufacturing of the specimen of the CIRCULAR WELD project. It is divided in two main parts: joint bars and unit cell. In the first part two different joints have been investigated using two manufacturing strategies (called here A and B), that can be applied to a general intersection with multiple bars with different angles. In strategy A, single dots are deposited along the bisector between the bars inside the intersection zone, while in strategy B, a number of dots equal to the number of bars converging in the intersection is deposited per layer. For the second part two different type of unit cells were investigated: truss and flex, with the first featuring vertical bars. For both joint bars and unit cell the integrated approach of geometrical model, thermal model and monitoring solution was applied to obtain a repeatable and first-time-right result, using the process parameters identified in the previous phase. This report presents the resulting prototypes that will be tested in the UNIBO facilities in the subsequent phases.
